Hey, I'm having exactly the same problem described on the sticky, except I'm using XP. Audacity worked fine up until today, but there were some "updates" last night when I shut down the PC.
Any ideas?

Is that causing a problem?
I've got XP SP2, and;
I have 1.2.6 and the mixer toolbar is greyed out.
and
I have 1.3.4 and the mixer toolbar is not greyed out.
Strange, but no problem - I generally have it hidden in 1.3.4 anyway.

Well, yes. I used to be able to choose "Line/Mic/Stereo Mix/etc.", and now i can't and no sound is detected whenever I try to record.

Check that you have the correct source selected in the Windows Mixer recording section,
AND
Check that you have your soundcard selected in "Edit->Preferences->Audio I/O"
