Strange background noise

Hello

After years of using Audacity without any major problems, suddenly my recordings from streamed files on the net have a strange background noise like people talking in a large hall

The microphone is off and definately not the culprit and the problem is already there before I convert the recording to an MP3 (i can hear the problem when i playback in Audacity before conversion)

To try to find the problem, I did record my voice with the Windows program and there is no such problem in playback

Any ideas please

Thanks

Normal voices in the recording sound echoy and hollow, or the performance sounds natural and has additional hollow voices?

I don't think this is the actual problem, but there is a second red flag in your posting. You've been at this for years, so I know you regularly clean out your hard drive, you have and maintain well over 20% free space and you regularly -- say once a week -- defragment and error check .... right?

Hello

I'm gonna have 'egg on my face' but the background noise was in fact just background noise

No one is visible with the speaker but i've now been told that he did the interview in a public space

Sorry about that
