MP3s automaticly imported to be a mono track

I tried to import a stereo MP3 track into the Audacity editor, and I noticed that it was automaticly changed to a mono track. Does Audacity always do this, or is there something wrong here?

Have you set Audacity to be 2-channel stereo in your preferences - I suspect not.
"Out-of-the-box" as shipped from the "factory" its default is set to single channel mono. See the Audio I/O tab from Edit/Preferences. The second selector box "Recording" lets you set the number of channels required.
