I purchased a Samson C01U USB mic and installed it. Worked well. Two days later, I opened my laptop, plugged in the Samson, and
tried to use it, and that mic had disappeared from the preferences. It was plugged in, the light was on, and it was in the Sounds/Audio section on the control panel. The computer was functioning on battery, and I had first plugged in the mic to a different USB port. I then switched it, but the mic did
not reappear in the Preferences portion of Audacity. What was I doing wrong? This is Audacity 1.2.6.

Microsoft XP Professional.
Re: Newly installed microphone disappeared
Click on the "Safely remove hardware" icon near the time/date - the USB microphone should be listed as a connected device. If it is not listed, then Windows has not recognised it.
The USB microphone must be connected and recognised by Windows before you open Audacity.

Thank you. I will try that next time it happens. Maybe it was just a fluke.
