I'm a newbie. but have enjoyed using Audacity for about a month now. Now, however, whenever I start the program, this warning message comes up:
"Audacity found temporary files that were not deleted or saved
the last time you used Audacity.
Audacity can't recover them automatically, but it you choose not
to delete them, you can recover them manually."
Delete temporary files?"
I always choose delete. Yet, about 30 seconds or so after I begin recording, the audio track flips out and I get this error:
"can't open file 'C:DOCUME~GABRIE~1TEMPaudacity_1_2tempb00021.au' (error 5: access is denied.)"
This message will pop up repeatedly throughout the recording, and the result is my recording along with old recordings mixed in with it. (Not sure if it is multiple or just one phantom recording.) I have tried uninstalling Audacity and reinstalling, but it always gives me the same messages. I also tried the new beta version, but my recordings always have poppings and clicks, so I'd just rather get the stable one working. Can anyone help me so I can just do simple old fashioned recordings again?

Re: Warning & Error Message & Distorted Recording
A follow up:
I ran Audacity and recorded nothing to see what come up. It is definately two different recordings, one each on seperate parts of the Stereo Track. One repeats, the other doesn't finish. It lasts from exactly 30 secs to 2 min 5 secs, then stops. I ran it for another 4 minutes, and it did not happen again. I stopped it, restarted the recording from that point, and was able to record without any problems. So, I guess if I can't fix it, I just have to let it run its course then record and cut and paste to a new track.
Anyhow, just thought I'd give the info.

Re: Warning & Error Message & Distorted Recording
Often if Audacity crashes, or is caused to shut down improperly, it will leave a number of project files on your disk.
Audacity saves projects as "name.aup" and a folder containing the data for that project called "name_data"
From your post you should be able to find these files: C:DOCUME~GABRIE~1TEMPaudacity_1_2temp
The best thing to do if you get that message "Audacity found temporary files that were not deleted or saved
the last time you used Audacity...." is to delete them, then shut down Audacity correctly. Have a look in "C:DOCUME~GABRIE~1TEMPaudacity_1_2temp" and remove any old audacity files and data folders. Then restart Audacity and it should be ok.
It is often a good idea to save your project periodically while you are working using "Save As" - you can even make multiple backups of the project with different names if you are doing a lot of editing. (for example "save01.aup", "save02.aup" etc.)
I think the problems are just caused by Audacity getting confused by old data files, so this will hopefully sort out the problem. Good luck, and let us know how you get on.
