No sound from exported WAV or MP3 format

I an new to Audacity. I received a turnable for Christmas which came with Audacity software. I have successfully recorded music from an album. However when I export to either a WAV or MP3 file and try to play it in windows media or on a CD there is no sound. The same file plays fine in the Audacity software. Can some help me?

It will be worth upgrading Audacity when you have time - Audacity 1.3.11 is due out any time now, so I'd recommend upgrading as soon as it comes out.
