hi irish i got option of USB Audio Codec as the recording device

ill record now and let u know

ps does it matter about microphone

i noticed first time i played back it was all music rather than voice

does it matter i fi have my hi fi on at the time of recording also does it matter if i have the DBFB Button on will that take from the sound

You need to have the turntable powered up and plugged in before you start Audacity.

If you have done this, and still aren't getting USB Audio Codec as an option, the turntable could be faulty, or you might have a bad USB connection. Try using a different USB socket.

hi irish as i say im making a recirding now with the right devices

im using a lenco music turntable unfortunately it doesnt have a light to show on or off and theirs is no on on / off switch on it

can u tell me should i export it as a wav or a mp3 , im using a ipod touch

No, it doesn't. Once the USB device is plugged in, it takes over the sound paths and other inputs are disabled.

Are you using the hi-fi to play back the recording, or how is it connected to the turntable / computer?

WAV will give you the best quality, but WAV files are very big, and you will soon fill up your iPod.
MP3 is a compressed format and loses some quality when it is encoded, but gives much smaller files than WAV.

For burning CDs, use WAV, but for your iPod, MP3 is OK.

im only using my hi fi as i listen when im doing the recording

im using a usb cable from turn table to lap top


my ipod touch is 64 gb lol

by the way when u save a video clip from you tube does that up much memory i use voobys programme and i can convert it to ipod file

i just put that song from vinyl exported it as a mp3 to my ipod playback was very poor quality hissing sound through the play back yet it sounds perfect on the audacity play back

and i put the settings as u asked


is it true that analogue from the turntable when put into digital is no good it loses quality

i recorded a song exported it in wav it started off great then went all hissy

One more thing to check:

Take the WAV file and the mp3 that you made, import them into Audacity and play them in Audacity.
If they play OK in Audacity, there is a problem with your iPod. If not, we have to start looking at other things.
