Capturing audio from dvd

Hi there,

I've been looking for a while now for a program that can capture audio from DVD. That is to say, I pop in a DVD and then the program records the audio stream right from my HD (or from wherever the audio is coming) wile the DVD is running. I'm not whizkid, and so far I haven't been able to get Audacity to do that. I did saw an option to (I think) record from CD. At least, I could switch between microphone, CD, Stereo Mix and some other things. Not much luck there though. Is this possible to do with Audacity?

It depends on your hardware, but on Windows (or Linux) it can usually be achieved by selecting “Wave Out", “Stereo Mix” or "What You Hear" as the recording source.
An alternative method it to "rip" the audio directly from the DVD, then convert it to wav format, however, since that has nothing to do with Audacity, I'll recommend the "Doom 9" forum for information about that subject.

Ah, yes, great. It works now. Its just short samples I want recorded, so there would be little point in ripping the entire audio track. But this is just perfect. Thanks a lot for your help. Not sure why it didn't work before, I had already tried using Stereo Mix.
