audacity.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close
it seemed i had successfully downloaded the stable version of audacity onto my PC operating Windows XP Pro, along with the LAME version 3 for windows Mp3 encoder, vst bridge 1.1, and LADSPA plug-ins win 0.4.15. However, when I try to launch audacity from either the desktop icon or from the program menu, i always get the "audacity.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close". any ideas on what's going on? i've tried rebooting.

Try removing the VST bridge and see if Audacity will open correctly.

Re: audacity.exe has encountered a problem and needs to clos
Im using Vista and i have this problem to. It worked when i removed the vst bridge to. Only problem is...i want to use vst bridge because...how else am i goin to use the effects i want? Is there really no other way? I´ve never seen this problem until i installed FL studio and absynth. Could it have any thing to do with it? Hope it doesnt require a rienstallation of the entire OS

You could try using Audacity 1.3.11
The VST Bridge is not required for VST effects in Audacity 1.3.11, however the Fruity Loops VST effects will probably not work and may still cause problems. I don't know what FruitLoops have done, possibly some sort of anti-piracy protection, but they regularly cause trouble in other programs.

Re: audacity.exe has encountered a problem and needs to clos
Thanx for the answer. I might try that one. Is it very unstable? I mean does it cause any problems in the system other than perhaps malfunctioning? Easy to uninstall in case i wouldnt like it? Not every beta program is.
Re: audacity.exe has encountered a problem and needs to clos
On the computers that I use regularly (3 of them) Audacity 1.3.11 is exceptionally stable. I'd definitely recommend it.
Yes it uninstalls easily, but if you want to make a 100% perfect un-install follow these steps to "install" it:
1) Download the ZIP version of Audacity 1.3.11 (a ZIP file is an archive file that contains a compressed version of all the files in the archive)
2) Extract the contents of the ZIP file (The files in the archive must be "extracted" before you use them - on Windows XP and later I think you can do this by right clicking on the ZIP file and selecting "Extract", or alternatively, double click to open the ZIP file, then copy the audacity folder that is inside the ZIP and paste it somewhere on your hard drive.
3) Open the Audacity folder and look for the file audacity.exe - in the same folder as audacity.exe create a new folder and name it "Portable Settings".
4) Create a Desktop shortcut to the audacity.exe file.
You can now launch Audacity from the Desktop shortcut.
Audacities "Preferences" settings will be stored in the "Portable Settings" folder that you made.
Nothing is written to the Windows Registry.
To uninstall, just delete the complete Audacity folder and all of its contents.
I've not tested many VST plug-ins with Audacity 1.3.11, but I would bet that the Fruity Loops VSTs will still not work.

Re: audacity.exe has encountered a problem and needs to clos
I see...thanx for the instructions, think i'll try it. Regarding fl studio. I have removed it cause it proved full of troubles, but my audacity still suffers the same problem. Like the damage is permanent. But it might be different with the beta version.
