Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

No sound (anymore...)

Post by paccoboek » Tue Jan 05, 2010 10:51 am

Hello,

i'm running version 1.2.6 on a vista machine, and all of a sudden there was no more sound from audacity.
I was listening to an imported *.wav file, and it won't playback anymore.
All the meters are moving as if everything's working allright, but: no sound.
I tried to make a new recording, which show allright too (by terms of the vu-meters) but this can't be heard either.
(Once I exported it as wav, I can play it and hear it through Media Player)
Any ideas?

Greetings,
Frank

Are you working with a USB turntable, USB mic or USB soundcard?

Hi wc,

no, there are no usb-devices attached.
The wav-files where allready on the machine, whilst i could still here them.

I tried to re-install the software, but this didn't solve the problem.

ok - so what happens if you try to play the WAV files with some player software like Winddows Media Player or RealPlayer etc.

Do you then get sound from the WAV on your PC?

It seldom does - except in extreme circumstances. Though installing a more up to date version, the latest Beta say, sometimes does help.

Hello WC,
btw, thanks for replying...
I can actually play the wav-file thru windows media player, AND I can play the same wav-file on another pc, (windows xp), using the same Audacity-version (1.2.6)...
So it looks to me like a vista-audacity problem?!

TIA,
Frank

Have youu seen this sticky thread - it's about Windows 7 - but W7 and Vista are very closely related: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 12&t=16871
