Records EVERYTHING! THIS IS BAD!

Ok, so I found the major source of one of my problems. Everything I play through my computer gets recorded. Like if I turn off my speakers and mic and play something on YouTube and press record, it records the sound, even though my speakers and mic are off! I don't get it.

I've tried setting the preferences on Audacity, but it still won't work. I've also tried installing it again, but no change. Help, please?

Check the settings in the "Windows Mixer" - if that's set to "What You Hear" or something similar, then it will record everything that is sent to your speakers (irrespective of whether your speakers are physically on or off).

If you want to record from the line-in (only), then you need to select that in the Windows Mixer.

I tried what you said but it is still not working.

The windows sound control panels are not easy to master.
