Saving AUP files?

I just started using Audacity to record WAV and MP3 files to accompany PowerPoint slides for a university course. I noticed that many AUP files (I had 22 AUP files for one slide) are created after each clip for one slide. I have exported out as WAV and then as MP3. Do I need to save these AUP files, or can I delete and just import the WAV file for later editing.

Lastly, I create a separate audio file for each slide. Can I close out that session as I don't understand how the software knows how to number the AUP files.

Thanks

If you'd done with any audio editing, you can delete those .aup files and the _data folders. Those are Audacity's project files, they aren't normal audio files. They're only necessary if you want to open the project again in Audacity, so once you're done editing and you've exported to wav, the Audacity projects aren't worth much.

I'm not sure what your second question is asking. Audacity shouldn't be numbering .aup files by itself, you have to provide a name for them.

I am. The poster went into the _data folder to get his sound files like everybody else does and can't figure out why they act funny.

They act funny because they're not sound files. Sometimes, under certain conditions, some of the files in the _data folder will accidentally play in Quicktime or Windows Media. They don't have to and a lot of the time, they don't. Have you tried to play the first two files? They look like the others, but they're graphics.

You are expected to Export As WAV... or Export As MP3... or other of your choice to get a stand-alone sound file that is correct and perfectly well behaved.

Audacity has to be the only program where "Save" doesn't give you a finished performance file.

And yes, it's perfectly correct that once you have your WAV or MP3, you can delete everything else, AUP, _data Folder, AU files, etc. That's assuming you never want to go back and recut anything.

I don't understand how you got so many Project (AUP) files. You know you can cut your whole show on one timeline and put Labels in at the right places? Export Multiple will then give you file breaks at each label.
