I have a USB Turntable connected to a Windows Vista PC and I am using Audacity 1.2.6.
When I play an LP with the Input Volume set at max.,thereis some clipping of the waveform on the high sound level parts.
I expected to be able to reduce the input level to prevent this using the control adjacent to the meter.
However, if for example I reduce the level from 1 to 0.5 I get a reduced level but it is clipped through almost all of the track.
I thought I had everything set up correctly. What am I doing wrong?

If you are lucky your USB TT will have a gain control (volume control) on it somewhere - some (ION's for example) have it inconveniently located underneath the deck. You don't say which make & model of USB TT that you have.

If you have no such control then you are out of luck - once the signal has been converted to digital in the USB TTs onboard soundcard and then passed out through the USB services then no further adjustments to the signal level for recording are possible - the Audacity input slider control is inoperable when using a USB device like this. If this is the case then I hope you kept the receipt and can return it to the store ...
