I need to import the .act recordings from my mp3 player and export as mp3s so I can burn the recordings on to cds. I did this before with: import raw data ==> select desired .act file and click open ==> click on .act filed and select export as mp3 from the file menu.

for some reason when I try ths now the mp3 is making the same "white noise" sound as the .act file when it is first imported. How do I export the file in a format that plays the voice recording ratheer than the "white noise"???

You stumped the band. Unless one of the other posters has heard of it, you may be out of luck. Wikipedia's never heard of it and the only Google hits I get are people asking exactly the same question you did.

I'm surprised it ever worked in Audacity. The program is not usually very foreign format friendly. Did you change versions or do an upgrade?

".act" is a low quality audio format (8kbps)
Fortunately very rare now (the quality is awful). It was originally used on voice recorders when memory was expensive.

You will need to convert it to wav before you can do anything with it.

Your best bet is either:
"Sound Converter Tool 2.0" http://www.geocities.com/sound_converter/
or
"Konvertor" http://www.konvertor.net/
