Simple question, hoping for simple answer

Hi!
I am using audacity for cropping long mp3 tracks, but I have an issue with it. The output file is always 128 kb/s, even though the initial quality was higher. I can't find any setting that would fix this.
Maybe this has been asked before or has a very simple solution, but I still would appreciate it if you could help with it.
