Sudden recording distortion?

Hey, guys, I'm having a lot of troubles with Audacity.

I recently upgraded from XP Pro SP3 to 7, and now I get a horrible output quality whenever I rip my vinyl. I'm using an Ion TTUSB turntable that sounded just fine before I upgraded my OS. Whenever I record, the end result sounds similar to that of a cell phone, and the spectrals are almost always solid blocks of blue.

I'm running the Beta, but the issue occurred both with 1.2 and 1.3.

Anybody have any ideas as to why this is suddenly happening? :(

Those numbers on the left probably should be 44100, 16-bit, Stereo. Reset in Audacity Preferences and restart.

Nobody ever claimed that Ion turntables were models of stability. A very common complaint is "I made it through my first four albums and now new albums are enormously distorted."

Replug the USB connection and restart the computer. If that fails, remember where you left the purchase receipt.

I just got it to work perfectly with my laptop, so it's definitely not the turntable. Could it be a sound driver issue?

In which case its more likely to be a faulty USB connection on the other PC

Tried that, and the other ports have the same issue. The levels seem to be all out of wack, and I get this wheezing noise when I try to record.

Okay, so the microphone volume seems to be the issue, which I fixed. However sometimes the recording lags and affects the playback. =

--EDIT--

...only seems to happen when Audacity is at the forefront. I think my PC can't handle multi-tasking anymore. The spectral takes too much or something. Well, problem solved, I guess.
