no playback of first track while recording new track

Post by alkyjuana » Sat Dec 26, 2009 8:52 pm

i just got audacity and looked through the instructions i could find and it didnt say anything about this. so anyways i recorded a track with my guitar and it plays back just fine but when i went to put a new track of lead guitar i couldnt hear the first track at all which makes it pretty hard to add new tracks. im just useing my laptop with a mic plugged in the mic hole and i understand i dont want it played out loud while recording another track cuz i dont want it bleeding into the new track so i tryed plugging headphones in the headphone hole and it still didnt play. i can record multiple tracks and play them all back together but i should be able to hear old tracks through headphones while recording new tracks. can anyone tell me how to make that happen?

There is an Audacity Preference called something like Play old Tracks while Recording new ones. Restart Audacity when you make system changes.
