this happened to a friend of mine (who i'm helping use audacity).
they noticed that whenever they generate silence (or do a few various effects) while zoomed in, audacity automatically zooms out to the default view.
is there any way to fix this (bug)?

i noticed that this behavior doesn't happen on my own audacity.

Yes, update to the latest version of Audacity.
Audacity 1.3.10 is the "official release version" but it has a bug in it, so I would suggest going for the 1.3.11 version which is available here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... tly_Builds

There is an Awkward Workaround. After it zooms out, Control-E to zoom back in and Control-3 to zoom out slightly. That will put you just about where you were expecting to be.
