how do I get this program to work

We just purchased the Grace Tape2 USB which came with Audacity 1.2. We are on Vista Windows - we are not experts on the computer. We cannot get LAME to download and cannot get the machine to copy our cassettes to the computer. The instructions are very confusing to me. I have followed all the instructions in the LAME bit, with no success - if it is recording it is hiding from me! Where can I get instructions for a novice like me -

For Vista you would be much better with Audacity 1.3 (Vista had not been invented when Audacity 1.2 was released)

The easiest way to install Lame:
Download the ZIP version (for Windows) from this page: http://lame.buanzo.com.ar
Extract the contents of the zip file into your Audacity folder (which is in "Program Files").
Open up Preferences (from the Edit menu) and on the "File Formats" page, click on the "Find Library" button.

the Audacity 1.3 seems better and I did get the music into there, but when I try to download LAME from the site recommended I get the message "cannot locate program" - any other suggestion to download LAME

Did you download the Zip version of Lame and extract the contents to the Audacity program folder?

I clicked on the zip version, but Verizon/MSN says it "we were unable to locate file to download:" tried it with Safari and it gave me a different program - am going to call Verizon and see what they say - but any additional help would be appreciated.
