Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

LAME...

Post by lpvmc » Sat Dec 19, 2009 9:09 pm

Hi,

Use Audacity 1.2.6 stable Windows version and XP Home, SP3.

Checked the WIKI pages and http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=3507 to find a solution for my problem.

Want to export a file to MP3, Instructions are clear but still get an error message: Couldn't open the MP3-library (something like that, since it's a translation).

Any help is much appreciated.

Try installing Audacity 1.3
then Download the ZIP version of Lame (for Windows) from this page: http://lame.buanzo.com.ar
Extract the contents of the zip file into your Audacity folder (which is in "Program Files").
Open up Preferences (from the Edit menu) and on the "File Formats" page, click on the "Find Library" button.

I have been unable to get LAME to "open". Tried Audacity 1.2.6 and 1.3; running XP. Followed the thread and advice from stevethefiddle 12/21/09, but no joy. Still get message "cannot open".

Do I need to go buy some other MP3 package (ie is there some inherent limitation as to where LAME MP3 dll will run?).

Stuck with WAV files for now.

You should be able to find a free WAV to MP3 converter on t'interweb.

Even iTunes (which you can download for free) will do this job for you if you set it up right - but it's a bit of a sledgehammer to crack a walnut for the job you want.
