CD will not play in my car radio
I am new at using audacity and have just copied my 1st old Vinyl record using 1.2.4 version that came with my ION USB turntable. I then made a CD using Sonic software that came with my system. The CD works in our computer, our DVD player and in my wife's portable CD player. It will not work in the car radio. When I insert the CD, nothing happens. I am able to play CD's that I purchased. Hope someone can help me out with this problem
Thanks in advance

Re: CD will not play in my car radio
You have probably created a data CD rather than a Music CD - and make sure you use WAVs rather than MP3s.

Re: CD will not play in my car radio
Thanks for the reply. However, that is the kind of CD that I created. I tried using different CDs (memorex and HP) Memorex is a -R and the HP is a -RW. Still no success. I hope someone here can figure the problem out.

Re: CD will not play in my car radio
If you have an older car radio it might not be able to read CD-Rs or CD-RWs. That might even be true of more recent CD players, though I would hope not.
Re: CD will not play in my car radio
At the moment it sounds like the problem is with your car CD player rather than anything else.
Try making a copy of a pre-recorded CD that you own (I think that it's legal to do so in most countries, providing it is exclusively for your own use), or try to play a CD-R that someone else has made.

stevethefiddle: I don't know why I did not think of doing that, but I didn't. Copied a pre-recorded CD (again using sonic software) and it appears I have a problem with the radio CD. The new copy did not work but the pre-recorded one did. I am stumped.
Re: CD will not play in my car radio
I had similar problems with the first CD drive I owned that would write CD-R's. I couldn't play back music CD's that I'd made on it reliably on my old boom box (over 15 years old) -- had to get something new to play them on.
With the drives on my newer computers I have no problems; and my car player works fine (2003-model car).
Computer drives don't really burn CD's the way commercial drives do. That's why older players may not handle "home-brew" discs.
Speaking of car players: check your car owner's manual for warnings about using paper labels on CD's. Mine (Ford Taurus) specifically says don't use 'em!

Re: CD will not play in my car radio
We managed to dance around hard numbers. How old is the car radio? Mine is a '92 and it will play home-burned music CDs from a number of different burners Windows or Mac. Some of the players a few years older than that wouldn't
Get somebody else to burn a music CD on something else and see if that works. If that doesn't, either, then you have your answer. If you can't find anybody, drop me a private message and I'll send you a test disk.

Re: CD will not play in my car radio
I tried the CDs I burned in two other car players and they worked as expected. I guess it is my player. Time to get a new car. Kozikowski: thanks for the offer of the test CD

Charles, I've heard of rich folks changing the car when the ashtray was full, but .......charles wrote:I tried the CDs I burned in two other car players and they worked as expected. I guess it is my player. Time to get a new car.
