Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Audacity crashed, i can not find the files ---HELP!

Post by yongyong » Thu Dec 17, 2009 1:08 pm

Yesterday I made a interview with Audacity 1.2.6 under windows vista for around 20min. As i wanted to save the project, it showed such as : ....problem occurred...the Software would be closed....And then Audacity closed automatically. I reopened the Audacity, it showed "...if you want to delete temporary files....", i seleted "no". But now i could not find the files with.au in temp folder. I searched the harddisk, there are only files with .au from old interviews.

By the way, i made last month almost 10 interviews, some took 40min., it worked well and no problems occcurred.

Someone helps me? Thanks in advance!

I believe the live capture files are in a special hidden directory.

Do you have any idea why Audacity crashed? If you have a great many interviews on your machine, are you filling up your hard drive?

We urge people to Export As WAV to get a single, standard sound file for archive. I export WAV of each raw live performance capture and then again the finished show. Then I make protection copies.

Audacity Projects are multi-file and multi-folder affairs and a lot more complex than people think they are. They are delicate, brittle and easily damaged -- and lost. You can not easily move an Audacity Project, so when your system drive fails and you need to open up your backup projects (you do keep backups, right?), there is a very good chance they will not open.

You can throw WAV files onto any thumb drive with room and lock it in the broom closet for archive backups.

I'm reviewing the question again. You may not wish to stay with Audacity 1.2. Support for Audacity 1.2 is ratty under all the advanced operating systems WinVista, Win7, Leopard, Snow Leopard.

We have something of a dilemma there because Audacity 1.3.10 has known problems with Export Multiple. I use Audacity 1.3.7 very successfully. I don't know where that version is for Windows.

The "Export Multiple" bug is that when you use "Export Multiple", the end of each marked section is increased to the next 5 second mark. If you don't use the Export Multiple feature, then Audacity 1.3.10 is a good choice for Windows (the Export Multiple issue has been fixed in Audacity 1.3.11, but this version is not available just yet).

Thanks for the reply!

I don't think the problem was related to capacity, C drive has 113GB free, E has 35GB free and D has 45GB free. Maybe there was not enough memory, because i had not restarted it for long time.

I did export the file as WAV everytime, but this time before i did anything, it had crashed.

I do belive also the files should be still in my computer, but maybe do you have any idea, how i can find it out? I used search function, but it did not help.
