recording vinyl - auto stop after 1st track

Hi.
Im new to all this and have just recorded my 1st record to MP3 this morning!
Im using Audacity win 1.2.6 with a USB turn table ION.
I have managed to record an entire record now (and split it into seperate MP3 tracks, but only by applying a workaround).
Basically It seams that if I listen to the record as its recording - the recording stops automatically after the 1st track (or to be more precise when the first bit of silence is hit).
If, I disable the software playthrough the entire record records no problems.
So, my question is... is this a known bug that i cant get around, or am I doing something wrong?
I would like to hear the music im recording if at all possible....

OK, so I can answer my own question!
Its all down to the spec of the PC. The playthrough takes a lot of processing power (as documeneted), and seams to cause the recording side of the software some issues.
Using a higher spec PC does not result with the same prolems.

You may find that if you disable all unnecessary processes on the original PC - including disconnecting from t'interweb and stopping virus checking - then your original lower grade PC may work fine.

Audacity is a resource hungry program - it demands a lot of your PC, especially when in recording mode.

There's also another thing we should note. Software Playthrough is almost never necessary, even if you want to listen to what you're recording (in the audio world, we call this "Monitoring").

Software Playthrough is Audacity's way of providing a Monitoring signal, but Audacity is not in a very good position to do this in an elegant manner. Thankfully, the vast majority of sound cards provide a hardware Monitoring signal, but it's up to you to fiddle with the sound card driver programs to turn up the volume of the monitoring signal. In most versions of Windows, this is as simple as double clicking the speaker icon in the bottom right hand corner (of a default Windows setup), and then turning up the volume on whatever you have your turntable plugged into (probably Line In unless it's a USB turntable).

Just read this post after doing a serach for a similar problem. My recordings would stop when I got close to a silent section or between tracks. I also had the same problem on Adobe Soundbooth spftware - which I use for audio editing & recording.

My solution was to bypass the USB connection and use the "line-out" from the turntable; change the hardware preferences and now it works. I monitor the sound from the sound card with the "pass through" off.
