audacity sound
I have just installed audacity and connected record deck to computer but get no sound. Instructions say set source ie "mic" or "line" in on mixed toolbar - my toolbar does not show that facility next to volume bars. I only have a drop-down menu offering volume of mic/line/cd. where do I find the source facility? Bob the hat

Re: audacity sound
And is this a USB deck - or are you going analog to your PC?
Make and model numbers and details of setup are useful.

Re: audacity sound
if you look under edit tab and then preferences the pick audio i/o then under recording select the driver. if you play a record and press the red record dot, it should show it recording. hope this helps with sound.
i dont know if mine is faulty but the usb sound is clipped and distorded if it is on yours then the wave shape will have a flat top and bottom and not a variable spikey wave, feedback please?

Re: audacity sound
With USB devices the signal level has to be controlled before it gets to Audacity - the USB device changes the analog signal to digital and after that there is no further controla over the volume.technoid wrote:i dont know if mine is faulty but the usb sound is clipped and distorded if it is on yours then the wave shape will have a flat top and bottom and not a variable spikey wave, feedback please?
If your USB device has a gain control (volume control) then you are in luck and you should be able to use this to manage the signal level correctly to avoid clipping - if it doesn't then you are out of luck (take it back to the store and get your money back ...).
