Audacity not Recording

I have tried both 1.2.6. and 1.3.10 and cannot get any recording from my vinyl records.
Computer - Pentium 4, XP, SP2, ASUS, Lagacy Audio drivers (best match), Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver updated to latest version. Both are on-board.

Input
Stereo Amp and Phono connected properly. I can hear the music through the headphones.
Stereo jacks from Tape 1 output connected to blue Line In of computer.
Selections on Amp are Listen- Phono. Record - Tape 1. This is the standard configuration that I use to make recordings onto a cassette.

Audio controls in computer
Sound Playback - Vinyl AC'97 Audio (Wave) (only selection)
Volume - nothing is muted
Sound Recording - Vinyl AC'97 Audio (Wave) (only selection)
Line In is selected

Audacity - Line In is selected

Recording
Sound from headphones
Red right side meters showing
Green left side meters not showing
Window displays flat blue line

I have read numerous threads on this forum and read tutorials. I could not find a solution for my problem. I have tried many different combinations without success.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you're getting the red recording meters flashing, then you are getting a recording. Whether or not it's appropriate is another question. The Meters measure dB and the blue waves on the timeline, unless you changed them, are in percent. It's completely possible to have bouncing red meters and have little or no blue waves.

To illustrate, half loudness to your ears is about -18dB on the red meters -- somewhere in the middle, but it's just 12% on the blue waves.

You don't get the Green meters until you play something back. So capture a minute of anything. Export As WAV and then open the WAV file and see if the green meters bounce.

You should be able to adjust the volume of the little blue Line-In connection. That's in the Windows Control Panels.

That one typically works out OK. My sister has an amplifier with a Tape-Out that is broken. Way too low a level to do any serious recording. I ended up using an outside Phono Preamp with her turntable to do the work.

Phono Preamplifier
Two very nice phono preamps in actual use.
Honorable mention to the Hafler HD-101 preamp, no longer made.

Thanks for your reply. It was good to know that I was on the right track. I tried my Tape 2 Output with no success. But, the Multi-room output jacks were the ones that gave me a displayable recording. I needed to reduce the Line In volume level of the computer to very low and the input level in Audacity to the 2nd or third mark to reduce the clipping at the top end.

What does your system think "Multi-Room" means? Is this where you make the sound in your living room reverb like an opera house?
