I'm looking to mix a couple songs together, so I need to delete parts of songs. I do what the help says, I highlight the section I want deleted, and then press the delete button but yet it doesn't delete. I've even tried copying the part I wanted it and pasting it to another part but it wouldn't paste. Any ideas? Or are actual songs locked from being edited?

That depends on where you got the music from which is pretty much the first thing I was going to ask anyway.

There is a long list of things that can cause craziness like that, but lately, the first remedy has been to upgrade to Audacity 1.3.9 and see if the problem is still there.

Audacity 1.2 was developed during the Harding Administration and has some pretty serious problems with modern operating systems.

You can install both 1.2 and 1.3 on your machine as long as you only use one at a time. Audacity 1.3 Projects will not open in 1.2.
