Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Help, Please!

Post by Scholar » Mon Nov 30, 2009 2:53 am

I recorded a project using Audacity and then sent the file to my email. Soon after that, my computer crashed. When I tried to open the emailed file on another computer, it does not open. The message tells me that the file was associated with another file that is needed. Is there any way of opening that file and recovering my recording? I would appreciate your response.
Thanks

You probably sent the Audacity AUP Project file instead of a sound file. AUP files are file managers and they stand on a great many other files, some sound segments, some pictures, and other folders. Since the files needed to reconstruct your show are on the crashed machine, there is no show.

Next time Export As WAV when you want a very, very good, uncompressed sound file or Export As MP3 to get a smaller, but lesser quality sound file to email to somebody or post your podcast. You need to load the 'lame' software package to make an MP3 because MP3 is licensed software.

Audacity will not Save a sound file.
