Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Argh! How Can I Recover A Saved .mp3 That I Want To Change?

Post by Son of Spam » Wed Nov 28, 2007 7:44 pm

Here's the situation:

It was one of those songs that segues into the next track (think Pink Floyd albums). I foolhardily faded-out the end of the first track, before realizing I could have just done some cut-and-paste between tracks to individualize them.

Unfortunately, I've since pressed "Save" on said first track and can't find another version of it (certainly, not for the time being).

Is there any way to recover the original version I had on my computer -- whether through Audacity 1.3 or Windows 2000?

 <------ Feeling as if I'm not going to like the answer.

Audacity has unlimited undo, but only until you close the program. So if you've saved the file as it is and overwrote the original file, then undo is your only hope. But if you've closed Audacity since then, you're out of luck.

Also, be aware that mp3s can't really play gaplessly (unless your mp3 player can force them to). So even if you edited really carefully, the LAME encoder would still add a tiny bit of silence to the end of the track, thus making a click.
