Hi, just got my new computer with Windows 7, so at the moment I'm using Audacity on a XP computer.
Do you have a date when the new 2.0 version will be released.

The general idea at the moment is for "early January 2010". We are actively working on and testing Windows 7 matters at the moment.

The best way you can help is to grab 1.3.10 when it comes out on or soon after December 1st and report any issues to our feedback address.

I switched to Windows 7 beta a couple of weeks ago.
So far I am not impressed.
I like very much the ability to shift the location of the different icons in the taskbar.
But other than that I do not see a lot of major improvements.
What are the main advantages you think Windows 7 bring to the table?

You'll have to ask Microsoft that one... In terms of audio the main changes were between XP and Vista, not between Vista and 7. Lots of people have problems getting recording going in Vista and 7 because the operating system seems to often default (with the audio drivers that the computer has) to there being no input devices "enabled", which means Audacity can't record. At least the "Sound" control panel in 7 now lets you click to enable a device (you had to work out to right-click before).

The Vista and later "per-application" volume controls and insularity of audio from the kernel are quite good IMO. So unlike in XP and before, bad sound device drivers will only crash the program, not the whole system.

That's been available on Linux for a long time.

There is a quite a good guide for optimising Vista for recording, and I assume that much of it will also apply to Windows 7. http://www.audioforums.com/windows-vist ... zation.php
