I have been working on a sound track in aup format converted from mp3. Everything was fine but I can't get sound out of it. I can play other files fine with audacity but not this one anymore. There is about 15 seconds which will play in the middle of the file but the other 1minute and 15 secs is silent. What happened? Can I recover the file? I still have the wave pattern but sound missing in most of it.

AUP isn't a sound format. AUP is a Project Management file and its job is to point to other files. It's the other files that make up your show.
The blue waves on the screen are made up of two graphic picture files and can easily get out of step with the real show if something goes wrong.
Combine two or three MP3s into a mash up in Audacity. Save your Project and then you can delete or move the original MP3s, right? No. That will cause what you have. The AUP file plays your original sound files and if you damage, delete or move them, the show will drop dead. Can you put the original files back where they were? That should give you the show back with no holes in it.
You can prevent that in the future by changing one Audacity Preference:
Edit > Preferences > Import/Export > Always Copy All Audio into Audacity (Safest).
This may appear somewhere else on your Audacity. It changes with version.
Also, Export As WAV is you have a valuable show you want to save. MP3 files cause sound damage.

Hey you are good. I had my Audacity files on my desktop and moved them to a folder. I moved them back and it worked straight away! I'm not sure why some of the other files would play okay from the folder but I've learnt now.
Thanks Koz, I'm glad to have my file back and have exported it as a WAV. Did I mention you're good. Cheers!
