recording speeds up?
I am experiencing the opposite of latency and it is really strange. Hopefully someone else has dealt with this and there is a fix. I have recorded a few songs on Audacity previously without this happening. I was singing a vocal track over music and in the headphones everything is fine and timing is ok. Upon playback I notice that my voice comes in early and keeps speeding up as the track goes, so if it is a long vocal I am extremely out of time near the end of it. I in fact had to record each verse by itself because if I tried to sing the whole song on one track it was terrible as near the end I am almost a second early. Again, it is perfect in the headphones while laying down the track just speeds up on playback...anybody..HELP!!

That's one to stump the band isn't it?
Let's go for the wacko gold.
Your voice is fine. The music track is slowing down and acting oddly.
Where did the music bed come from? Is it a normal WAV file 44100/16/2? I bet not. I bet it's one of the music file types that Audacity doesn't know very well. Audacity deals with those by playing them off speed. They become unstable.

Re: recording speeds up?
Dang! I lied it is not syncing up. Here is the info: he is recording the music on a Fostex digital multitrack recorder..exporting the .wav file from that to his Audacity program, mixing, and exporting to me via .wav file from Audacity. I do notice now that his music comes through as 24bit 22050hz and when I record vocals to his track Audacity automatically records in 22050hz, but when I am recording my own songs and layering tracks I do it in 24bit 44100hz and all is lovely. Do you think this can be fixed where he can record in 44100hz on his multitrack? He doesnt have the hardware to record straight to Audacity. This is really frustrating. I have been able to cut and paste to correct time line but not with the results I am looking for. HELP!! thanks again!

Re: recording speeds up?
I think this is solved! I just went on to the fostex site and seems he is recording in extended mode 22050mz instead of regular 44100mz. I will let him know this and have him change recording speed next time around. Also he is recording into Audacity with Audacity set at 24bit although his machine is only 16bit he should just dump at 16bit and save space correct as there is nothing to be gained if the orig material is only 16bit? so many questions!!
thanks again,
Glenn

Re: recording speeds up?
I have also had this reverse latency problem, and it was my sound driver. even though i had everything in 4100, it still became off very slowly. I have absolutely no idea why my sound driver did this, but after uninstalling the update I had made a few minutes before recording, it worked fine.

Re: recording speeds up?
This is the same problem I have. Basically, when I want to record a song, but I only have one microphone, I play the entire backing guitar part through my USB mixer. Then I go back and do the vocal part to the guitar part I just recorded. Upon playing it back, I can hear the vocal line bit by bit getting more and more early until eventually the timing is absolutely atrocious, it sounds horrible! Should I reinstall my sound driver?
