Cannot burn WAV music files to CD

I NEED HELP

While proficient at the computer this is my first attempt at transferring my audio cassettes to a CD. I have often burned data (Word, PDF, etc) documents to CD without any problems

I am not able to burn my Audacity 1.2.6 converted Cassette to WAV audio (music) files to CD. I don’t believe I have made any errors nor did something wrong in the process – but you never know, I’m new at this. I am able to play the resultant WAV files on either of my computers (using Roxio 6 or WMP or iTunes players).

THE PROCESS:- I first replaced the noisy gap between selections with 2 seconds of Audacity silence, successfully added labels to the beginning of each piece & then did an Export Multiple Command. This produced all 29 music pieces from the cassette to WAV files complete with the labels as file names.

Each time I try a burn all I get is an error reported out on each file – in Roxio a dialogue box lists two cryptic error references … E8004139a Dispatch Error #4509 & E80070057 Parameter Incorrect. Searching Roxio Help & WEB site produced nothing on these error references.

I have tried to burn the Audacity 1.2.6 created WAV files using Roxio Easy Creator 6 & WMP (v.10 on one computer & v.11 on the other) on two different computers without success.

After NOT being able to burn the WAV files I have been able to successfully burn commercially produced MP3 files already on my computer to CDA files on a CD using my Roxio Easy Creator 6 software. So now it is looking like there is something about the Audacity created WAV files that the burning process is unhappy with.

Thanks
Kent

The software may not like the Audacity default bit depth of 32-floating. Music CD default is 16-bit. You can change that in the Audacity Preferences. You can convert your existing WAV files...

Hi;

1. If in preferences I set sample rate to 16 bit from 32 bit float then the bar to the left of the wave form continues to show 32 bit float.
2. If I then, in the drop down menu in the bar to the left of the wave forms, change the ‘Set Sample Rate’ from 32 bit float to 16 bit then Audacity stops responding.

If instead I eliminate step 1 above (keep 32 bit float in preferences) & change ‘Sample Rate (format) as in step 2 above Audacity again stops responding.

Question:- Should I just proceed with Step 1 above only & ignore my step 2 and ignore the fact that the bar to the left of the wave forms still continues to show 32 bit float notwithstanding the change made in preferences?

If the answer to my question directly above is YES then is it correct that all I need then do is save the AU project file, do an Export Multiple Command and allow an overwriting of my earlier WAV files?

32-bit versus 16-bit is the sample format. What is the sample rate of your project? CD burners usually expect files with a sample rate of 44100.

What OS are you on (XP, Vista, 7)? It could be that you need to upgrade to 1.3.9.

The project sample format was done in Audacity's 32 bit float default and it was recommended by kozikowski earlier to change it to 16 bit - my 8:04 PM response was on this issue. My sample rate is 44,100.

My OS is XP sp 3

If you change Audacity System Preferences like that, you will need to restart Audacity to make the new settings stick. This could be the cause of the program freezing.

And yes, Audacity 1.3 is not a bad thing. You can safely put both versions on your machine as long as you only use one at a time. Audacity 1.3 Projects will not open in 1.2.

If I just change the rate from 32 bit float to 16 bit in preferences and restart - the rate shown in the bar to the left of the wave-forms remains unchanged showing a 32 bit float. Is this an anomaly in 1.2.6 to be ignored?

Hi All:

With 16 bit as the preference I was able to re-save my AU data in this configuration and was SUCCESSFUL in writing the project to disc using Roxio Creator 6.

Unfortunately it did not write the file titles only wrote Track 1, 2, 3 .... Now I have to figure our how the get the Titles to write onto the CD.

Thanks,
Kent

CD's do not normally have titling - the Red Book standard uses all the real-estate for the the sound recording and a short TOC (table of contents) to let the CD player lmower where the tracks start.

Sometimes you will get titling when playing the CD on a computer - but this information is then normally obtained over t'interwed from the Gracenote CDDB database - and is not carried on the CD itself.
