I have the new audACITY AND WANT TO KNOW HOW TO CHANG SOME THINGS?
wEN i OPEN A WAV FILE i SELECT THE WHOLE TIMELINE AND CLICK THE ARRO IN THE hEADER BOX AND SELECT THE NEW bIT rATE AND IT CHANGES IT
tHEN i SELECT the new Sample rate and change it from stereo to mono and export it.
But wen I right click on the file I check the settings and the new bit rate is changed and it is now mono that was changed but the sample rate is still the old sample rate.
What am I doing wrong how do I change the sample rate in the timelime and have it stick wen I export???

Re: audacity help
Audio is always exported at the project rate. To set the desired sample rate of the exported file, use the "Project Rate" box in the lower left corner of the main Audacity screen to set the project rate immediately before exporting.

Re: audacity help
OK thanks.
But if I have to set the Sample Rate in the left hand bottum side of the screen before I export it.
What is the Dropdown list in the header box at the start of the Timeline for??? Wen I click on the down arro in the header box It let you pick Bit Rate and Sample Rate but just the Bit Rate stay wen you export.
So what is this for if you have to set it on the bottum left side befor you export??

Re: audacity help
The "Rate" setting in the track's drop down menu is for setting the sample rate of the track. Audacity projects can contain tracks with different sample rates (though the old 1.2.x version does not handle this very well). If you change the sample rate of a track that already contains audio, the playback speed (and hence the pitch) will change.biferi wrote:What is the Dropdown list in the header box at the start of the Timeline for???

Re: audacity help
ok this is what I want to do and maybe by having you tell me how to do it I will learn more about how it works.
I have a wav file opened
I want to turn it from whatever the Bit Rate is to 16 Bit and then turn it from Stereo to Mono then turn the sample Rate to 22.50 kHz or close to that.
Then export it and have these settings for the audio file stay wen I export it as wav
Thanks

Re: audacity help
OK, can do that, but an important bit is missing - what sort of WAV are you starting with? (mono/stereo, bit depth, sample rate).biferi wrote:ok this is what I want to do and maybe by having you tell me how to do it I will learn more about how it works.

It could be helpful if you give a bit of background information - where does this WAV file come from, is it something you recorded? Why do you need this specific WAV format?
