Problem with recreated project and .au files
I recently messed up an Audacity project, but I was able to recreate it from a CD I had made when I exported it some time ago. I took the six tracks and converted them the .au files so Audacity could open them. I then put them back together and saved it, but when I deleted the six files I found that I no longer had sound in the new Audacity project, but there is a wave form displayed. When put the six files back on my desktop I got the audio back. It seems the new project is drawing off of the .au files. How do I stop this?

Re: Problem with recreated project and .au files
Audacity has a preference setting called something like: "Copy all music (Slower)" maybe (Safer). Audacity defaults to leaving all the music right where it is and reference it at the right time (Faster).
The blue waves come from graphics files and can easily get out of step with the show if you're doing manual file management.
You might run into troubles if you're not starting with original uncompressed sound files.....
Give it a shot.

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you wrote, but I did find the place on the File Formats tab to choose the safer option. I'll try doing it again with that one checked. Thanks

Re: Problem with recreated project and .au files
Those English words change a lot depending on which version of Audacity you have.
You know you're doing the right thing because the machine will go into file management mode and the hard drive light will come on for a while as Audacity copies music inside itself. That step is missing if you leave the default as it is.
And, of course, you already know how to move files and make sure that the show doesn't drop dead.
