Windows Media Player

I have successfully recorded a tape cassette and saved it in both WAV and MP3 formats. However, neither of these will play in Windows Media Player. On the other hand, Quicktime will play them. Any suggestions for overcoming the Media Player's reluctance?

Edit menu > Preferences > Quality tab. Set "Sample Rate" to 44100.
Edit menu > Preferences > File Formats. Set "Uncompressed Export Format" to "WAV (Microsoft PCM 16 bit)"
Some (free) programs (for Windows) that you may like to try:
Foobar2000 - an excellent audio player that plays almost all audio formats - can also convert from one audio format to another.
VLC - a media player that plays almost all media formats (audio and video).
CDBurnerXP - A very comprehensive CD/DVD burning program
C-Dex - an excellent CD ripper.
Audacity 1.3.9 - the best released version of Audacity so far (watch out for Audacity 2.0 due soon).
Q. how do I completely uninstall WMP?
A. You can't (not without completely replacing Windows). The best you can do is to set better programs as your default players.
