Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Got a couple of questions for you. If the first one is a 'yes', there might well be a workaround until you find the true cause of the problem.

You say you've MADE the recording. By that, do you mean you can (pardon the lack of scientific expressions!) see the wiggly line in the Audacity window showing that the soundhas actually been recorded?

If the answer to that one is 'YES' then, because you say you can play MP3s O.K., why not export the recording as an MP3, then drag'n'drop it Back into Audacity and listen to it that way? O.K. it's not a cure, but it could well keep you going until you find out what the real problem is.

Yours respectfully

"Yes," as a kind of "fluke," I was able to once record with a microphone, not with the Line-in blue connector in the back of my computer, which is the mode I want and need to employ.

If there is a "checklist" on this website for recording with Line-in, please let me know, and I will follow its instructions to the letter.

Not on this forum AFAIK - but try this page from the Audacity wiki: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... uter_or_CD

Well . . . , call me Bill Gates! I clicked on the above link and found information for recording from a Mindisc player that suggested using the Headphone (out) connector. So I connected up a cord to the Headphone (out) connector, and, "Voila," Audacity started recording the signal from the Minidisc.

This is great, and I'm going to pursue the other directives at wiki.audacityteam.org. :P

Yup - documentation is wonderful stuff ... ;)

Glad you got it working.

You may find this page useful too - especially the link to the manual: http://audacityteam.org/help/documentation
