Problem with Sampling rate

When I'm recording from my sound card it's OK when the sound card is set to 44.1K sampling rate. I can record with Audacity set to 44.1K or 48K. But if I change the sound card to 48K I get an error in Audacity whether Audacitym is set to 44.1 or 48K. 'Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate'. Windows 7, Audacity 1.3.7, Emu 1212m sound card. Any suggestions appreciated, as I may need to run the sound card at 48K to circumvent some reported problems in Windows 7.

It sounds like your sound card drivers do not support 48000, or at least not correctly. You could look for updates drivers.
What's the "reported problems in Windows 7"?

Hi, Problems are occasional distortion which comes and goes -- fixed by running at 48K apparently. |I haven't noticed it yet, but I've only had Windows 7 a few days.
I have the latest drivers. I've found other things which don't work at 48K - Skype was one (couldn't find the sound card), can't remember the other just now
I just tried 96K and Windows media player won't play an audio file. Seems as if 44.1 is the only one which will interface with anything.

When you Export from Audacity, the sample rate of the exported audio is the same as the "Project Rate" at the time that you Export.
If you record at 96kHz, but you want to Export at 44100, just click in the Project Rate box (lower left corner of main Audacity window) immediately before Exporting.
