new windows 7 64 bit

i Installed windows 7 64 bit. Installed audacity 1.2 can not record sounds.
No symbol for device.
when pressing edit preferencing
input unit empty. nothing to select. when pressing start wrong on starting sound recorder
what to do?

Forget about trying to run Audacity 1.2 on Windows 7 (Audacity 1.2 was written back in the days of Win98)
Download the latest beta version (currently 1.3.9) and follow the instructions here:

Did you find a fix for running Audacity on 7? I have just upgraded and am having the same problem! Thanks.

You'll need to be sure you have 64-bit drivers meant for Windows 7 (or at least for Vista). In 1.3.9, you will get a crash opening preferences unless you enable an input and output device in the system mixer (this is already fixed in our post-1.3.9 code).
