It's not a problem. It's the way Audacity saves projects.

Audacity doesn't save audio files. When you use the Save command in Audacity, it saves a project, which is a collection of small files with all the data necessary to recreate the audio in Audacity so that you can go back and edit it again.

To get an audio file out of Audacity, that you can burn to CD or listen to on your iPod, use the Export command.

See this page from the Audacity wiki for more detail.

Irish-

I can't export the files b/c there are so many. I don't understand what to do at all. There is a file on my hard drive that has all the songs listed as .au files. If I go to Audacity and click open, file...I find the list of files. I can't select all to export b/c there are too many files (750). I can't imagine that I would have to export each 750 files individually...

What am I doing wrong?

Just open the file ending in .aup and Audacity should put everything back together for you.

And please read the links stevethefiddle provided.

Thanks for everyone's help. I really appreciate it.

The files are saved as .au files....not .aup files.

I did read the links that were provided to me. I really appreciate it...however, I am still not understanding. It says to open the .aup files...which I cannot find. Should I be looking for those in Audacity or on my hard drive? On my hard drive, they are .au files.

When you save an Audacity project you save two things:
1) One .aup file which is a "roadmap" of your project. It lists, in plain text XML format, all the tracks, clips and .au files that make up your project.
2) A folder with a name ending in "_data". This folder contains the .au files.

For example, if you clicked on File > Save and named your project "MyProject" there would be a file called "MyProject.aup" and a folder called "MyProject_data".

Where are these .au files? If they are in your temporary directory then you didn't save the project properly. Either Audacity crashed or you exited Audacity abnormally.

When you say you "uploaded an album" how did you do that? Did you record it in Audacity or did someone give you all those files? If the latter then that someone forgot to give you the .aup file that ties everything together.
