track labels

I am confused about "add label at selection"
I cannot seem to get the label tracks to label like in the help files.

A bit more info:
In the help file it shows the label name next to the label marker in the label track. but when I "add new label at selection" I can only change the name of the label track (text appears on the left withe the pull down menu).
Also in the help file it shows multiple labels in the same label track, but I just can figure out how to do this.

Thanks Gale, I see now how this works, I think I was confused because I could not see a cursor when I clicked in the lable track.
