Hi Guys
I have just downloaded the recommended Audacity version 1.2.6
and downloaded the lame so I can save as mp3 and when you try to save a project as mp3 it says : could not open mp3 encoding library.

I notice other people had same problem, but they seem to have a different version of audacity.

It said on the page For all users, Audacity 1.2.6 is a stable release, complete and fully documented. so i went for that one.was that wrong??

I noticed some reference here for help, to go into doc setting, user name, data. I had doc settings username , user data but all folders in there were empty so could not continue with the advice given to another user.

Any help guys would be great
Thanks

I wish they would change that. Audacity 1.2.6 is ancient - the new "stable" version is due out next month (Audacity 2.0) which is based on the current 1.3.9 version. I would recommend upgrading to 1.3.9, then look out for the release of 2.0 and grab that when it is released.

Follow the links on the main Audacity web site and get the latest available 1.3.x version and get the ZIP version of Lame.
Install Audacity, then extract the zip file into the Audacity installation folder (in /Program Files/ - make sure it is the Audacity 1.3 folder, not your old Audacity 1.2 folder).

If Audacity still cannot find the Lame encoder, follow the instructions here to reset the preferences in Audacity 1.3 http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... o_defaults
