I use Audacity 1.2.6 (Stable) version and my OS is Windows XP Professional ( Service Pack 2 ).
Whenever I try to record in stereo mode, I get only one audio track( Upper ) and at the lower audio track , I get only a strait blue line. As a result, the recorded sound is heared from only one speaker ( Left ). Kindly indicate the steps I should take for recording in stereo mode so that recording could be done on both the upper and lower audio tracks simultaneously. I have followed the directions pertaining to stereo recording containing in Preferences, but no success.

Re: Stereo Recording
From your description, it looks as though your problem is with the signal coming into the computer.
Are you using a laptop or desktop PC?
What are you recording from, and how is it connected to the computer?

Re: Stereo Recording
Hi ,
Thanks for your prompt response. I use USB stereo cable for recording the music on my PC ( HP Compaq Presario )and I use the cassette player SANYO Compact Cassette Recorder ( Model No. 1140 ). The quality of output is excellent excepting that it is not in stereo mode.

Are you sure that the cable is stereo?Laxmikant wrote:I use USB stereo cable
Are you sure that this cable works correctly?
Make and model number of the cable?
(if the cable is 2 mono devices side by side, then Audacity will only be able to record from one at a time. It must be a single stereo device for Audacity to record both left and right simultaneously.)

Re: Stereo Recording
Thanks Steve and Irish.
The problem is solved ! you were right in diagnosing my problem pertaining to stereo recording due to the signal not coming into the computer. The cable was readjusted and recording started in stereo mode as the signal started coming in the computer from the cassette player. The cable used was HOTRON E-248588 Gu AWM Style 2547 28 AWG VW -1 80*C. It is stereo with two plastic rings at the tip. Kudos to Audacity team !
