Hello All my first time here,
I have XP Home with audacity 1.2.6 and have trouble recording. All was going ok and I clicked on the end of the meter bar and a box told me that I had disabled the VU something and to go to Preferences > interface to get it back.
I have done this and cannot find any way tofix this,There is no color in the meter bars. Also when I press the record button the line that shows progress of the recording is red with a red indicator at the top and does not move and nothing is recorded.Any help with this is appreciated.

What I would suggest trying is to reset your preferences - there are some instructions here in the Wiki for how to do this: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... defaults_2

Note that in 1.2.x your preferences are stored in the Windows Registry - when you upgrade to the soon to be released v2.o then the preferences will be stored in a file called Audacity.cfg.

Thankyou waxcylinder,
I have deleted Audacity from the registry and uninstalled and re-installed audacity 1.2.6 and all seems to be ok now.
I had previously uninstalled and installed audacity thinking that a new installation would fix my problem,[which it does in most applications],but was unaware that the preferences were stored in the registry and carried on to the following installation.
Once again,
Thanks a lot,
wombil.

Glad you got it working wombil.

Another point to be aware of is that as you now have 1.2 installeed, and therefore yoyr preferences are set in the registry. When you later upgrade either to the latest Beta 1.3.x (pretty stable now) or to the soon-to-be-released "stable" v2.0 then the preferences that you have in your registry for 1.2 will be copied to the new audacity.cfg file that gets created when you install/use 1.3.x/2.0.

I'm not certain, but I think they are planning to make Audacity 2.0 install without importing Preferences from earlier versions. (it will get round a lot of problems if they do).

I cetainly hope this is the case - IIRC one of the amin reasons was to aviod having to reload the LAME library all over ahgain when upgrading - but now that the LAME verions are incompatible between Audacity versions and you have to upload the later LAME for use with 1/3/3.0 - then there is no longer a case for this ...
