Cannot import AU files

Post by DavTer » Sun Nov 08, 2009 3:57 am

I recorded a number of cassetes. After each tape I saved the files in std Audacity format ".AU" with a separate project name for each cassette. Now when I select to import a project, any of the dozen projects, each which has hundreds of .AU files, each 1049 Kb in lenght, well the program just locks up.

IF I import just one or two of these files, well OK, but they are only each about 30 seconds long, but are not sequential, they are not connected. If I select all the say 250 files of a project (one project only), all locks up.

There is a XXXXX.AUP file which will not import at all.

What have I done wrong?
Dave.

Audacity will not save sound files. Audacity saves Projects which get turned into sound files of completed shows later.

To make a sound file at any time, File > Export As WAV. You can make an MP3 file, too, but that's a little more complicated.

Since you already have several projects saved, you should be able to open the AUP file associated with the project and it should automatically gather up all the little AU files and line them up into your show. Right-Click the AUP file > Open With > Audacity. You can also do it within Audacity. File > Open > piano2.aup (my piano solo that I use for testing).

It will not do this if you changed anything. If you moved the files around, changed the names, changed the folders. Changed anything at all, the Project may not open.
