I downloaded 1.2.6 to an XP computer I am adjusting to. Everything works but I cannot select an input channel such as: Wave Out Mix, Line out, Aux, and micorphone. It a blank non-responsive pulldown box. Am I missing something: a setting or option somewhere.

You need to select the input channel in Windows Sound Control Panel, to make it appear in Audacity.
Right-click on the speaker icon at the right-hand end of the taskbar and select "Adjust audio properties".
