Playthrough

When recording via the headphone socket on my record player, it seems I cannot use any method to hear the recording (playthrough) at the same time through my computer or record- player speakers (inserting the headphones does of course cut it out.) It appears available for MAC but is there an answer for Windows XP users please?

If you are talking about a USB turntable, this may answer your question: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 603#p56203

I've been known to use a "Y" cable so that the record player's sound is available both to the computer for recording and a pair of headphones. You are warned not to connect and disconnect the headphones during the performance and, of course, you can't change the volume, but it's good for rough quality control.

For example...

Neither Software nor Hardware playthrough works? Did you try restarting Audacity between setting changes? My new Mac will not do Hardware Playthrough, but it will do Software Playthrough which is late, but it does tell me if I'm getting a dog barking in a recording.
