imported WMA doesn't play back at the right speed

Hi local gurus

I'm an Audicity newbie running on XP pro.

I know this is baseline but all I want to do cut down a voice recording that was burnt to CD by a friend in *cda. I've imported it to my desktop and converted it to *wma. The track plays fine in media player and is 27mins long but when i import to Audacity it plays back at high speed (within 3 seconds) and is incomprehensible and therefore un-editable.

I've read the manual (and the FAQ's) and following the steps for creating a project, importing audio etc.

Am I missing something basic here ?

cheers

Too many steps. Rip the Music CD with CDEX which converts CDA format to WAV. Edit the WAV.

Audacity does not recognize Windows Media.
