Can't chose recording source in Win7

Upgraded from XP to Windows 7 64 a few days ago, but I'm running into some trouble now. I've got a SB X-FI Extreme Audio soundcard, but unfortunately it seems that Creative Labs has gone greedy jew on me and taken away the "What U Hear" service for this line of cards in Vista and Windows 7 (guess they want me to buy a 100 dollar sound card in order to get these very very basic features). I've found a way to work around that by installing some Virtual Audio Cables http://software.muzychenko.net/eng/vac.html#support and disabling Windows Digital Driver Signing so that they'd function in WIndows 7 http://www.killertechtips.com/2009/05/0 ... windows-7/ - ok good, so now I have a source that Audacity could conceivably use to record from my soundcard - but now I've got a problem with Audacity itself.
I'm using the version 1.3.9 Beta and for some reason, the little drop down menu next to the microphone has only one option "Master Volume" Can't switch it away from anything other than that. I looked around the forums before posting and it seems that in Vista at least one had to go into Edit -> Preferences -> Audio I/O, unfortunately there is no "Audio I/O" tab in this version of Audacity (at least not for me) so what I really need to know is how to get Audacity to record from another source (say like my new virtual audio cables).
