If you import it back into Audacity does it play (with sound)?

Try this:

1) Open Audacity
2) Generate menu > Tone > Generate Tone button.
3) Press "Play" - you should hear the tone.
4) File menu > Export as MP3
5) Give it a name and Export the file to your desktop
6) Click the "Save" button

Does this produce a working file?
If not, can you import the file into Audacity and does it look the same as the original track?
