Hi,

I've been using Audacity for nearly two years, but its been in really recent months that I've been having the same problem. When I record my voice, Audacity will stall and cause skips while I'm recording. In my last podcast the end stalled and skipped so much that you can barely understand what I'm saying. I have Windows Vista as my OS, but this was going on before I got my current laptop when I had XP. I haven't changed the way I've been recording, I don't use any fancy tricks during the recording process. Is there any way I can eliminate this skips and stalls?

And you're absolutely sure the problem is record and not playback? Do the errors always occur in exactly the same place every time?

Yes I am sure it happens during recording. As I'm recording the recording tracker line will stall and cause the skips to occur. My last several podcasts have skips that occurred during the recording process.

And you regularly error check your hard drive, move unused work to a backup drive and defragment at least once a month? Audacity will not work into a badly fragmented hard drive and no program will work into a drive that's almost full.

Right-Click Start > Explore > Right-Click Local Disk C: > Properties
Drives start to slow down at half full and start generating errors at 90% full.

Right-Click Start > Explore > Right-Click Local Disk C: > Properties > Tools > Error Check.
Don't fix anything.

Right-Click Start > Explore > Right-Click Local Disk C: > Properties > Tools > Defragment > Defragment.
If you're in WinXP, you will get a map of fragments. If the map is all red, just let it fix itself. it may take many hours. Do it again about every other day until it starts only taking five or ten minutes. The drive gets faster and faster every time you do this.
